Main Street Gospel to release Love Will Have Her Revenge

June 17th, 2010 by admin

Lumping Columbus, Ohio’s Main Street Gospel into blues would be a mistake—yes, they are indeed bluesy, but there’s something to be said for any group which can take that oh-so-delicate genre and make it intriguing through the fusion of additional mediums.

With Love Will Have Her Revenge (release date of June 29th on Tee Pee), MSG takes the proper dosage of blues and adds definitive flavors of mid-tempo stoner psychedelia, while at the same time bringing legitimate, Americana roots-rock, if you will, melody to the table via Barry Dean’s vocals.  Throughout the record, listeners will have moments where they say, “Hey that sounds like—” The Black Keys, Kyuss, My Morning Jacket, etc, etc. The end result is an album made for road rambling, the perfect soundtrack to I-40 east, a true summer gem for the sluggish, sweltering humidity.

Check the Main Street Gospel at one of these coming dates if you’re in the area:

June 24: Happy Dog — Cleveland, OH
June 25: The Ottawa Tavern — Toledo, OH
June 26: Comfest Bozo Stage — Columbus, OH
July 16: Skully’s — Columbus, OH
August 19: Secret Project Robot — Brooklyn, NY

David Cross gets Bigger and Blackerer

June 4th, 2010 by admin

As the years go by and comedian David Cross continues to stack Hall of Fame laugh tracks, it’s not without reason that fans of the bespectacled bearded bald man look for any and all output to be crudely humorous. And with Sub Pop’s release of Bigger and Blackerer, Cross’ third full-length comedy record, taped in October of 2009 at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre, the man now known to many as Tobias Funke does not disappoint. Whether bashing rednecks and their preternatural ability to love and hate everything about America at the same time, or providing insight to both the racial and Biblical manifolds, Bigger and Blackerer once again finds Cross doing what he does best; that is, making people laugh in a politically incorrect manner, and getting away with it like the pro that he is.
